WHERE ARE MY BREAKFAST MATES?

Now I wonder where our small group has gone. It's been a while since we organized a breakfast thingie with friends and I don't see anything coming soon. Oh well, maybe this is something that's hard to sustain. After all, breakfast time is not so easy to wake up to. ;-)

In any case, I figure I'd post something here today. It's Easter Sunday morning now --- just past midnight actually. In a few hours, the traditional "salubong" will be happening in most of the places here in the Philippines. I have not witnessed this event ever in my life. And I doubt I'll be witnessing one today.

"Salubong" is a Filipino tradition where the images of Jesus and Mary are carried from opposite areas to meet at the designated area. I think almost all communities here have this event around 4am on Easter Sunday. It's to commemmorate the reunion of Mother and Son after the Resurrection of Christ. Those who have attended one of these always say that it's a happy event. The bearers of the images run toward each other, while the crowds follow them. It must be a spectacular sight I suppose.

I had planned to celebrate Holy Week in the traditional way that we do it here in the Philippines. But my body clock tells me differently. I sleep at dawn and wake up at noon so I don't know how I can really join the traditional celebrations in the community. I know I should have more discipline but all the schedules of the activities do not jive with mine. Oor is it the other way around?

Well, I've done some cleaning in my room, and some organizing. And I've finished one article about my trip to Northern Leyte last year. Well it was months ago, but I just had to write about it before my memory starts to forget. Then I was also able to organize some of the stuff from my recent trips and had them tucked away neatly for a while before I can get myself some kind of an album for photos and souvenirs and some journal stuff. And I've also started on the book that I have always wanted to start reading for weeks now. So that's quite an accomplishment so far. Plus I've done some mini-cleaning of my room as well. Of course it's not a major clean up yet...but for sure I'd be doing it soon. I may still be able to finish one more article on Eastern Samar before the holidays end.

Easter Monday, work begins again! But in the meantime, I will still wait for my breakfast mates to join me in another breakfast session soon.
